By Louis(张朗歌) from 2401
Good morning.
I’m Louis from Class 2401, and it’s my pleasure to stand here today, to share my thoughts on the topic: The Impact of Social Media on Today's Youth.
For every one of us, social media is no longer a strange thing. It has already become a regular part of our daily life. It’s the easiest way for us to stay in touch with old friends, even if we don’t get to see each other often. It’s where we look for clear study guides when we get stuck on homework, or pick up fun new skills from short tutorials. It even lets us keep up with the latest updates of our favorite sports stars, musicians and cartoons, all right at our fingertips. In so many small ways, it makes our life more convenient and more colorful.
But if we’re being honest, it also brings a lot of troubles that we’ve all experienced. How many times have you picked up your phone just to look up one vocabulary word, only to get sucked into mindless scrolling, and realize half an hour has passed with your homework untouched? How many times have you scrolled through others’ perfect posts of good grades, exciting trips and amazing hobbies, and felt that quiet anxiety, like everyone else is living a better life than you? We all know those posts are just people’s highlight reels, not their real daily life, but it’s still hard not to compare. It steals our focus, messes up our sleep schedule, and makes us miss the small, nice moments happening right in front of us.
The truth is, social media is just a tool. It’s not good or bad on its own. What matters is how we use it. We don’t have to delete all our social apps, and we don’t have to treat it like an enemy. We just need to be the master of it, not the other way around. We can put our phones away when we study, stop mindless scrolling before bed, and always remember: the real, warm moments in our life, the laughs with friends, the progress we make in class, these are the things that truly make up our youth.
Let’s use social media to make our life better, not let it take over our precious youth.
Thank you all.
