Everyone has his favorite book. My favorite book is The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain, a great American writer. He is the founder of critical realism in American literature. He is the world-famous short story master. His works fully express his care for the ordinary people.
This novel is one of the most famous works of Mark Twain. It is about the adventures of a boy called Tom Sawyer, a brave and smart boy. His aunt described that nobody knew what would be the next idea in Tom's mind. He was eager to explore the world in his own way. He could think out amazing solutions to solve the problems he met. He also had great responsibility and deep sense of justice. He would protect his friends though he was misunderstood by the teacher. Although he was afraid of Injun Joe, he chose to help poor Muff Potter by telling the truth.
The story is attractive because it is based on the writer's real experience, and I am impressed by several adventures and the funny plot in the novel. Take painting the wall for example. Tom was punished with painting the whole wall by Aunt Poly. But Tom wanted to play with his friends. He didn't want to waste time in painting the wall at all. After carefully thinking, Tom came up with a good idea. He pretended to deal with the painting as an art. He emphasized that painting the wall was not an easy job but the one needed talent.
Only those with great skills were qualified to do the job. The other boys were so curious about this great job that they wanted to prove they had the talent. They gave Tom their cherished gifts to exchange the painting chance. How smart Tom was! He knew that the harder the work was, the more people wanted to challenge.
In the novel, Mark Twin employed humor and irony to express the darkness of human beings and the society. He didn't criticize the evil directly. He explained the criticism through Tom's thought and behavior. This great novel is a wonderful reading material which is full of education and inspiration. I think it is not only a fantastic story for children in western countries, but also
a worthwhile novel for students in the world like every one of us.
