By Pamela Stanford
I am not here to give you a flowery speech
But to let you know what Christmas means to me
Christmas is a time for giving and sharing
Spending time with family, with friends and showing others we are caring
To some Christmas means there’s presents beneath the tree.
To others, it’s children’s laughter, as happy as can be.
Every time this season comes around I’m filled with joy
To see the bright smiles from every girl and boy.
But during this time of year when I’m so far away from home
Away from loved ones and everything I own
I try not to feel sad or blue
Because there’s lots of people feeling like I do
Instead, I give thanks for all that’s around me
For kind, warm-hearted people who support me
And yes to you, who have made my Christmas to be filled with cheer
Knowing that there’s no need for me to have any fear
So I will dedicate this little poem to you
To students, to teachers, and all the staff too
Thanks for your warm smiles and greetings from everyone here at YIS
On behalf of the foreign colleagues and I, we are saying you are the best
Thanks for making us feel welcome and at home
At this special time when we can only call our family on the phone
So it is my wish to you and to all your loved ones, too.
A very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you.
So from our house to your house here at YIS
May the season be bright and the year that’s ahead turn out to be the best
On behalf of my students who will join me on this stage
We just want to greet you will some holiday cheer.
